Jul 23, 2013 Here is the detailed procedure of how I get stuck when I try to run a game 'The Settlers: Rise of an Empire Gold Edition' with Steam for Windows. Run Steam using POM. Install and run the game. Ask me to allow to change screen resolution, and I allow. (RandR mode) 4a. Screen goes black and there's no sound. The X11 (Xquartz) made to run on top of Mac OS X is seriously lacking some features that would make it very good. If you really want to use Wine based things on Mac OS X to its fullest, its best to buy Crossover Games, as their built in custom made X11 is MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH better for Wine than Xquartz.
Hello again!
Thank you for your advice.
Here is the detailed procedure of how I get stuck when I try to run a game 'The Settlers: Rise of an Empire Gold Edition' with Steam for Windows.
1. Run Steam using POM.
2. Install and run the game.
3. Ask me to allow to change screen resolution, and I allow. (RandR mode)
4a. Screen goes black and there's no sound.
4b. Screen goes black and sounds seems to be played normal.
(either 4a or 4b happens randomly as I try, but mostly 4a happens)
5a. If I press any key, it beeps and nothing seems to work in any way.
5b. Pressing key seems to skip an opening movie of the game.
(4a is followed by 5a, and 4b is followed by 5b)
6. Press Cmd+Opt+A to restore the screen resolution.
7a. There is no game screen. Only Steam and POM are running. No mouse cursor.
7b. There is a letterboxed white blank screen.
(either 7a or 7b happens randomly as I try, but mostly 7a happens)
8. Press Cmd+Q to exit the game and Steam.
9. An error dialog box appears as I mentioned my second post.
I tried to capture the debugger log and here it is:
('run Steam -> run The Settlers -> quit' following all 'a courses' mentioned above)

I asked to install the XQuarts or X-something when installing POM, and I think the installation process was just good.
Maybe I need to try reinstalling POM after posting this.
Thank you and let me know if you need anything else I didn't write so far.
Thank you for your advice.

Play Steam Games On Mac Using Xquartz Keyboard

I must admit I'm quite confused by Your response - current PlayOnMac release 2.4.5 doesn't provide/include any XQuartz stuff by itself - it just downloads and installs the standard XQuartz distribution if none is found in the system.
>Tinou:
Right, but I'm still hoping for some minimalistic solution like scaled down (minimal) XQuartz edition bundled right in PlayOnMac like it's done in Wineskin for example. Standard XQuartz distribution is quite big and I don't really need it for example. Actually I skipped the XQuartz installation in PlayOnMac and just use the Apple's X11 server as I use pretty simple apps when it comes to graphics. I understand it might not be a sufficient for gaming etc, but it's not really my case.
Also when it comes to additional stuff downloaded on first PlayOnMac startup - could You just write some instructions for how to download and install all these things manually if You can't bundle it into PlayOnMac? This is the case of additional fonts for example.
It's not really difficult so I believe there shouldn't be a big problem with that and having instructions for offline PlayOnMac installation may be handy.
Thank You - and keep up the good work.
